Ingredients
The recipe is super easy and doesn't require any pro skills, just perfect for a beginner.
For this mixed Berry Sauce we only need to mix five ingredients:
- Sugar
- Strawberries
- blueberries (or your choice of berries)
- Lemon juice
- Water
How Do You Thicken The Berry Sauce?
In this recipe, I haven’t used cornstarch or other additives like jam sugar or pectin like you'll find in most of the recipes and let me tell you, the result is still perfect!
With the right amount of sugar and berries cooked thoroughly following this recipe, you should be able to enjoy a very aromatic homemade berry sauce!
Besides we still want to have a ''sauce'' consistency for this recipe, not a jam.
However, if you want your sauce to be extra thick, whisk a spoon of cornstarch (or potato starch) with water until smooth and then add to the saucepan. The sauce will thicken further as it cools down.
How To Make Homemade Mixed Berry Sauce
Cut strawberries in quarters and place them in a medium pot.
Add all the rest ingredients to the pot over medium heat.
Stir until the sugar dissolves in the sauce.
Once the mix starts to boil, reduce the heat to medium-low and cover.
Let simmer for 10 minutes stir every 3 or so minutes.
Uncover and shut off the heat.
Remove the sauce from the heat, let it cool a bit, and carefully pour into a heat-safe container.
Serve warm or cold on pancakes, waffles, ice cream, or any other dish that will go well with sweet berry sauce.
For storing: Cool completely at room temperature, then cover tightly and store the leftover sauce in the refrigerator until ready to use.
